Based on the Umatilla Knowledge Bowl (2010-2019), this competition brings together Ichishkíin students in districts across our reservation to show off their knowledge of specific language themes in a head to head competition format. This event in planned by the Language Program in partnership with the Ichishkíin teachers and JOM committees across districts.
Our competition is usually the first Saturday in June; in 2024, we will be gathering on June 1st at Wapato High School. The event is open to the public.
We generally host three divisions of competition:
Beginners (C): Medium-length word and phrase list, spoken answers only, head-to-head competition rounds
Intermediate (B): Medium-length word and phrase list, spoken and written answers, head-to-head competition rounds
Advanced (A): Large word and phrase list, spoken answers only, individual competition rounds
Currently, our competition is geared towards K-12 students. In the future, we hope to also have an adult-age category.
